About the Collection: This collection consists of the various photographs and other types of artwork that are displayed on the wall of Jason Grey’s home as of September 2021. Jason Grey is a 54-year old male living in Chicago, Illinois, in a single-family home that he has owned for approximately eight years. These objects cover a range of media and provenance; some have been owned by the subject for many years, while some are more recent acquisitions. While there is no known formal criteria that JG uses for the inclusion of these objects in the decor of his home, the fact that they have been selected for display on the walls of his home indicates that they have some kind of personal significance and/or appeal.
The collection represents patterns of acquisition and display that are both typical of middle-class Americans, and idiosyncratic to the “collector” of the works. The collection not only illustrates the values, interests, and tastes of the subject, but also adds to the body of knowledge about the general subject of media and works of art displayed in private homes. By cataloging this collection it can be contextualized within the overall body of knowledge about art and decoration within private homes; this presents opportunities to study degrees of variance and similarity in the composition of such collections.
